I really enjoyed learning how to use StoryMaps this week. StoryMaps is intuitive. It is easy to make professional looking displays. What I enjoyed most about learning about StoryMaps was that I had been wondering how to seamlessly incorporate text and images in a user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing way. Now I know one way to combine text, images, maps, and other elements into one webpage. Even better, I’m going to use StoryMaps for a project in one of my classes. I had started the project by making a PowerPoint, but StoryMaps is better for simultaneously displaying text and photos as well as showing off the details in higher resolution images. I am very confident that I can help someone learn how to use StoryMaps.
I struggled to create the sidecar images. I had problems with saving the accompanying text with the correct images. It can also be slightly tricky to ensure that your images are saved in an accessible location on your computer. Generally, StoryMaps formats images nicely, but I have found that photos with irregular dimensions sometimes need to be rotated.
I would like to see how I can incorporate a more complicated map into a StoryMap. This training only required us to make an Express Map, but I’m curious how a map with multiple layers would appear on StoryMaps. I’m also curious about the options to include code and video.
